Kerala Schools to have Free Digital Libraries
4,071 Schools is Kerala are all set to get a Digital Library by the end of March 2010. These schools will be provided hardware equipment including 7,300 computers, 3,740 laptops, 6,510 UPS units, 1,291 printers, 785 scanners, 1,160 multimedia projectors and 430 LCD Televisions (32″) before March 31, under the IT@School Project.
Best part of this project is, not only using the Digital Library is Free, but also the schools will have full freedom to copy, re-distribute and even modify the content. This policy will leverage the content distribution and hence impart the relevant knowledge among the students, teachers and even general public.
Schools will also be provided with the broadband facility, so that the data download can be easy. According to the officials, “IT@School will facilitate sharing of digital materials and video documentaries produced by schools among themselves. There is no issue of piracy or unauthorized copying, and all teachers and students can use these materials the way they wish to use”
Such type of Projects are very important for every nuke and corner of India, and politicians and officers need to ensure that such facilities should not only be limited to implementation, rather a proper body should be made which can take care of its successful execution as well. IT has given a big hand in the development of India, and it is one of the biggest instruments India has to show its significance in World Economy, so pursuing and ensuring the IT development via IT education is a damn important agenda for India government in current times.
