Marlboro is probably the most popular Cigarette brand. Marlboro fans can be found across the globe in all the countries. Most popular variants of Marlboro in Indian Market are Marlboro (Regular one, quite strong for sure) and Marlboro Lights (as the name says, light), later came the Menthol (menthol flavored) and Gold Marlboro Advance (in my opinion, this is something lighter than the regular one and stronger than the lights).
All these cigarettes cost around Rs. 5 per stick, i.e. a pack of 10 for Rs. 50 and 20s pack for Rs. 100, which makes Marlboro an unaffordable affair for several Indians. Looks like keeping this in mind and looking forward to the expansion in customer base Marlboro has now come up with an economical variant of Marlboro, named as ‘Gold Marlboro Advance Compact’, which actually is a compact version of the Gold Marlboro Advance. This cigarette reminds me of small Four Square cigarettes (because of its 69-mm length), Godfrey Phillips India Limited is the same company which produces Four Square and is also the Marlboro manufacturer for India. This Gold Marlboro Advance Compact has been launched in Pune and Mumbai, and costs Rs. 35 for a Pack of 10 cigarettes.
Launching a variant of Marlboro which can help the masses to choose it as their brand, sounds a good business decision for sure. No doubt, smoking isn’t at all a good idea, but for someone, who is smoking something other than the world class Marlboro just because of the price factor, this step is definitely going to help people by giving them a quality product which is pretty much in their reach.
