Railway Freight decision awaits

Keeping in mind the inflation, our Railway Minister, Mamta Banerjee in consideration with Finance Minister wants to withdraw the decision of levying service tax on rail freight. In the Union Budget it was decided of levying service tax of 10.3% on “service provided in relation to transport of goods by rail” with effect from April 1. 

Last financial year also the railway freight was initially decided but withdrawn. Lets see what this financial year comes up to be. But if exempted, the tax will be passing on to consumer which also needs to be given a thought of. Read more on Railway Budget
