How to apply for Ration Card Online through e-PDS portal

Ration Card is one of the crucial documents which can be used when applying for Passport or Aadhar card. While its importance has dropped the past couple of years, if you still want to apply for Ration Card, it can be done online. There is a facility of digital ration card as well, and you can apply to get one quickly.

Note: Now that the Indian Government had announced ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’  it is even more crucial that you apply for it right away.

How to apply for Ration Card Online through the e-PDS portal

The portal allows you to either convert an existing ration card to a digital card or if you do not have, you can apply for a new one. In both the case, it will convert to Non-Subsidised Ration Card (For Rural Area).

1] Find your state government Ration Card Portal

The PDS portal lists all state government portal where one can apply for a new Ration Card or the digital ration card. Visit this e-PDS link, and then locate your state. Click on the State link, and it will reveal the State government portal. I am taking Kolkata as an example here.

Before we go ahead in the details, the portal lets you apply online for Non-Subsidised Ration Card and or Conversion to Non-Subsidised Ration Card. If you cannot apply online, you can download Form 10 or Form X for rural and urban. Once you fill in the form, you can submit it to your local ration card office.

3] New Application who don’t have the digital ration card

  • It will open a new application form where you need to select District, Block/Municipality, Gram Panchayet/Ward, Pin Code, Post Office, Police Station, Flat/Premises No, Street/lane No, etc.
  • You will also need to fill in DOB, EPIC no, Aadhar number, PAN
  • Enter the address where the card should be delivered
  • Next, click on the Show Member button to review the detail. If you want to add more, you can click on Add member’s detail.
  • Submit the application, and you will receive an application number which can be used to track the form.

4] Existing Digital Card Holder

  • Select your District, Block/Municipality, Gram Panchayet/Ward, Pin Code, Post Office, Police Station, Flat/Premises No, Street/lane No, Ration Card No.
  • Click on the Display button to view all the details. It will display family Members’ details of the applicant on the screen.
  • You can choose to select all the listed members or only the ones you wish to convert to Non-Subsidised Digital Ration. Once done, click on the View Selected List button.Submit Adhar PAN EPIC for Ration Card Application
  • Next, Enter the DOB, EPIC no, Aadhar number, PAN, and click on Submit button.
  • It will generate an Application No. for further use, and also let you download the submitted application in PDF format.

5] Track Ration Card application

On the local government portal, there must include an application tracking page. You can enter the application number, format, district, and other details to track the status of the ration card.
