People who don’t have passport need not worry. Now standing on long queues or hopping around the brokers to get a passport will not be required. External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna is deciding to set almost 77 high tech IT enabled Passport Sewa offices around the county. The first project will be launched at Bangalore.
This sewa office will be operating fully on IT system. The module will have a data center and a disaster recovery centre. All the other mini centres will be linked to this main processing center. There will be three national call centers and grievance redressel system. The status of the application will be provided via SMS also. The call centers will be there to help you for 24×7 assisting in 17 languages.
How will these Passport Sewa Kendra’s (PSK) work?
Before you plan to visit any of this Kendra you need to take appointment by calling up a national call centre. One might need to wait for 45 minutes at these Kendra’s to submit the application. Digital photographs will be taken by the PSK staff and the payment can be made by either debit/credit card. Passport will be issued within three days of police verification.
The plan really seems to be impressive and helpful for the citizens. At least some measures have been taken to help the passport seekers. But we need to check how effective this sewa Kendra will be and also hope we do get the electronic passport ( Chip Embedded Passports ) also in the passport sewa kendra.
