India is the country where problem of child labour are increasing day by day. We can easily see the problem of child labour at many factories, work shop, work as waiter in hotels, as hawkers or even in the mining field. But before giong to further, let us know what is child labour?
Child Labour:
It is done by any working child who is under the age specified by law. In India the minimum age to work for children is after 14 years. They do not go to school and have little or no time to play. Many do not receive proper nutrition or care. They are denied the chance to be children. More than half of them are exposed to the worst forms of child labour such as work in hazardous environments, slavery, or illegal activity such as activity related to drugs ar armed.
Causes of Child labour are:
- Poverty,
- Parental illiteracy,
- Social apathy,
- Ignorance,
- Lack of education
- Exposure,
- Exploitation of cheap and Unorganized labour
Helpline against Child labour:
To stop the practise of child labour, we have to create awarness among the people of the country. In this regard, Delhi Government step forward towards the movement against the child labour and a helpline launched soon to stop the problem of child labour.
The helpline number 12789 will be functional between 7 AM to 8 PM.
According to the Delhi Government official:
“It is being commissioned with an aim to provide a sense of confidence and assurance to workers and make it an effective tool for approaching the authorities in case of denial of the minimum wages by the employers and for enforcement of all labour Laws,”It will also function as an instrument to eliminate child labour as the affected children could call on this helpline or someone else may call on their behalf helping the Labour Department to rescue them.
How it works:
The callers will be intimated about the action taken in a shortest possible time that may not extend beyond four days.
