IGMSY : Project to support pregnant womens and infants

A new project has been introduced for the  pregnant women and infants in India. The objective of the scheme is to improve the health and nutrition status of pregnant, lactating women and infants by promoting appropriate practices during pregnancy, safe delivery and lactation.

According to the PIB ( Press Information Bureau ) India

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA)  approved the implementation of Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahayog Yojana (IGMSY).Under the scheme, pregnant women and lactating mothers will be paid cash incentives to improve their health and nutrition.

Each pregnant  and lactating woman in the target districts will receive a total cash incentive of Rs.4,000 in three instalments between the period from the second trimester of pregnancy  to the child attaining the age of six months.

Presently, it will be implemented in the 52 districts of the country at a cost of Rs.1,000 crore and it will be available in the Anganwadi centres.According to an estimation, 13.8 lakhs pregnant women will get benefit from the scheme.

I think this will be an effective step towards the health of  Indian women.
