The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification on the exemption of National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SET) for the applicants who have completed MPhil or PhD and aspires for teaching in colleges and universities.
The same has been appreciated by and accepted by the Bengal Government. Many of us due to some undue circumstances fail to sit for the mentioned tests or could not clear them. Both the exams were the pathway for being teachers in the colleges and universities once you complete your PhD and MPhil degree.
This will be definitely an ease for the PhD and MPhil degree holders. This will also help in filling a good number of vacant seats in the colleges for teacher recruitment. Please refer the chart.
As per the Central government committee in 2007 NET and SET were mandatory for being a teacher. In 2009 the committee exempted PhD degree holders who successfully meet the UGC’s latest regulations from clearing NET or SET. Let’s see how soon the committee again reviews and brings the notification in force.
